So another year has come and gone. Last year about this time, I made some resolutions / goals that I wanted to accomplish, so it is time to see how I did and maybe set some new ones.
Last years goals
Learn to use Inkscape and GIMP
Produce 2 character animations
Expand my Bobo the Blenderbug tutorial series
So let’s see, Inkscape and GIMP. Well I am by no means a master, in fact I am barely proficient after a year. But I do use GIMP instead of Photoshop at this point.
As for Inkscape, well that one proved to be a little more difficult. Although Inkscape and Illustrator do a lot of the same things, they both do it very much their own way.
So while, I have been using Inkscape for things here and there, I still rely on and use Illustrator quite a bit. But I recently started watching an excellent set of video tutorials that are quickly demystifying the power of Inkscape.
As for the second goal, I only managed one short character animation. But that is one more than I had done previously. So I am going to count that as half a win.
As for the third goal, that one was a total bust. I didn’t get any further at all. Which is pretty crappy, to say the least.
So while I didn’t accomplish all my goals, I did get far enough that I am willing to try again for this year.
So for this year I plan to:
1 – More Blender Projects
I’d love to do at least one a week, but I know that is very unrealistic with my schedule. So let’s go for 6. And that is a full out project, qualified as either a complete image suitable for printing or at least sharing or in the case of a character: fully textured, rigged and some test movement animations.
And because I rarely sit down and just play in Blender, I would like to aim for at least one model a week. That is just modeling, no texturing, rigging or animating required. Just modeling for the joy of it with no intended purpose or project in mind.
2 – At least one short animation.
And I mean, very short. I have an idea or two, so I’ll just have to see if I can get coordinated.
3 – Become far more competent in Inkscape and GIMP.
Just having them on my hard drive doesn’t count. I want to actually be using them in creative ways.
4 – Update my Bobo tutorials for 2.5 and continue the series.
Well that should keep me fairly busy for the next year
And what are your plans?
